As of now, the fantasy sports are tied into 5 major American sports: Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, National Football League, the National Basketball Association and the Professional Golf Association. Moreover, DraftKings also offers up UEFA soccer, NASCAR autoracing, MixedMartial Arts as well as college level football and basketball.
But, all that aside, what is new and exciting is the new license granted over in the U.K. In contrast to existing United States law which prohibits so called remote gambling, daily fantasy sports is seen as more of a skilled game. Thus it is considered at least quasi-legal the situation in the U.K. DraftKings simply applied for the license and obtained the license. Discussion over. None of that crazy gray area that makes up the U.S. online sports betting and online gambling industry.
Yet here is the big point, your takeaway that you want to make sure you get. The fact that now DraftKings is setup in both the U.S. and in the U.K. can only have one effect and one effect only. Namely, the whole concept of what is considered legal “gambling” and what is not is starting to blur.
